Cooperatives, which can participate in a maximum of 12, must demonstrate their commitment to the sustainable food model through commitment and leadership to promote change in their sectors and territories.
- The objective of the "Sustentta" Program is to help cooperatives transition towards a new, more sustainable food model.
- The project offers technical assistance, training and advice tailored to the needs and resources of each cooperative.
In a changing world, with numerous and successive challenges, there is a need to consider a consumption and socioeconomic model that is sustainable and long-lasting in the medium and long term. This is what we call "sustainability." Hence, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation has made the search for a sustainable food model for the planet one of its hallmarks.
To support this model, the Foundation has launched its "Sustentta" program , aimed at supporting the transition of agri-food cooperatives that wish to move toward a more sustainable and, therefore, more resilient food model.
The objective of "Sustentta" is simply to provide agri-food cooperatives with a roadmap to support their transition towards increasingly sustainable practices, and to accompany them hand in hand throughout the process.
Program Details
The “Sustentta” Program It is aimed at all agri-food cooperatives in Spain, with a maximum of 12 agri-food cooperatives eligible to participate in the project. These companies must demonstrate their commitment to the sustainable food model through commitment and leadership to promote change in their sectors and territories.
In return, these companies will receive technical assistance, training, and advice tailored to their needs and capabilities (available equipment and resources, current and planned projects, core business, and anticipated market and product developments, etc.).
Support for cooperatives will be provided through both online sessions and on-site work at each cooperative. Participants will be able to choose from the following topics:
1. Agroecological revitalization
2. Governance and leadership for change
3. Value chain analysis
Thus, the Sustentta technical team will work together with each cooperative to define their strategy and action plan to promote sustainable and local food.
Furthermore, the program will become a space for exchange and connection, a kind of shared learning network. To this end, four online exchange meetings will be held between all participating cooperatives and experts on various topics, as well as two in-person meetings.
The application period for agri-food cooperatives is open until June 23rd . In addition, an online session will be held on June 13th to present the program and answer any questions.

Sustainable food
The Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation explains that Food, besides being a basic need, also reflects the way we relate to our environment . Therefore, the act of eating involves not only the final digestion, but also encompasses all stages of the food chain.
Hence, the Foundation argues that the decisions we make regarding our diet have an impact on our entire ecosystem: loss of biodiversity, climate warming, and even social inequalities.
The purpose of the Sustentta Program is to redefine food systems to generate employment and more local, and therefore more resilient, economies.
