The Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Cooperatives of Andalusia (AMECOOP) has organized a workshop called "The Wheel: Rural Women Active in the World. Improving Women's Quality of Life through Theater." The project aims to provide women with an alternative for human development, positive coexistence, and the construction of harmonious environments based on communication, tranquility, and respect.

  • The Andalusian Association of Women Cooperative Entrepreneurs and the Chiclana City Council are presenting a performing arts workshop that will begin in January.
  • The program aims to help participating women value their abilities through theater-related techniques.
  • The workshop schedules promote work-life balance for the beneficiaries.

The AMECOOP Andalucía Association has presented the workshop together with the City Council of Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz, Andalusia), which will begin next January. It will consist of 32 teaching hours focused on sharing ideas and working with the body and voice.

The course proposes a personal approach to the performing arts with the goal of empowering women through self-awareness and the appreciation of their abilities.

Workshop Basis

The workshop will be held in person and, in order to facilitate the work-life balance of participants, will have a specific schedule adapted to their needs. According to Elena Aznar , AMECOOP's coordinator in Cádiz, this schedule could range from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., although it could still vary.

The activity will be divided into three work blocks:

  1. Play, creativity, active listening and teamwork.
  2. Expression, the importance from one's own autobiography.
  3. Interpretation of fragments of dramatic texts and social theatre.

The workshop will take place in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz), but has also been exported to San Juan de Aznalfarache (Seville) and Málaga .

The 32 hours of activity, as the association states, will aim to create a different landscape "that contrasts with patterns of inequality, acquire new skills of knowledge, reflection, and expression, and help participants learn new ways of relating and communicating."

Rural women

"We like to hold workshops away from large population groups because these types of activities don't usually reach smaller venues," said Elena Aznar.

Thus, she emphasizes that the workshop is aimed at women in rural areas who often lack the digital skills necessary to receive training and information that will help them acquire the empowerment the association seeks to instill.

“Theater gives you professional and personal skills to deal with many situations,” emphasizes Aznar, who has previously worked with women's groups on similar activities. “The empowerment is immediate. The group already notices it on the first day.”

The workshop has sparked the interest of many women who, according to Aznar, have already filled almost all the available places in Chiclana de la Frontera and San Juan de Aznalfarache.

Registration can be completed through the Chiclana Women's Delegation and the San Juan de Aznalfarache Town Hall, and the Malaga office will be announced soon.
