The European CAP Network (EU CAP Network) has once again convened the 2nd edition of the “Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards” 2024, or “ARIA Awards” 2024, this year under the premise of encouraging the participation of agricultural and rural youth with projects under the motto of “empowering young people.”
Applications could only be submitted through the national CAP networks, in this case through the Spanish CAP Network . Projects eligible for submission had to be funded by the CAP through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). and/or the European Agricultural Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) .
Thus, in July, the CAP Network selected eight projects to compete in the 2024 "European Rural and Agricultural Inspiration Awards," of which the European CAP Network has selected one: La Junquera.
Vote for “La Junquera”
The La-Junquera estate (Murcia), has been nominated in the category of “Environmental protection.”
The reason for their candidacy was to develop innovative work spanning 1,400 hectares of farmland. The project focuses on the application of regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices , while providing educational and entrepreneurial opportunities to rural youth. Through the "Regeneration Academy," participants learn about agroecology, soil conservation, and organic farming practices, promoting the revitalization of rural communities.
Thus, the academy is dedicated to training young farmers (under 40), university and high school students, rural entrepreneurs, and local community members, even collaborating with universities for research programs and partnering with environmental organizations for reforestation and biodiversity conservation.
Results of the project so far
- 2,500 hectares of land restored
- 30,000 trees planted
- Soil organic matter has increased from 2% to 6%
- Soil health and biodiversity have improved
- young farmers and trained professionals
- 5 regenerative agriculture courses have been developed
- The resilience of the local community is strengthened
