  • The objective is to strengthen the link between the territory and the people who inhabit it, specifically the school community.
  • The guide is accompanied by audiovisual pieces that invite you to explore the routes of the territory

The uniqueness of the landscape, the formation of its mountains, or the distinctive features of certain iconic spots are not trivial aspects of a territory's development. On the contrary, the environment determines the character and culture of the people who inhabit it.

For this reason, the Local Action Group (LAG) "Valles Pasiegos " (Cantabria) has published the "Educational Guide to the Pasiegos Valleys ," a book that captures the uniqueness of the Pasiego orography, from its inception to its transformation into one of the most emblematic cultural landscapes of the Cantabrian mountain range. The goal is to strengthen the bond between the territory and the people who inhabit it, specifically the school community, fostering an appreciation for the landscape, its history, and its social, cultural, and economic memory.

The guide is conceived as a multimedia tool to bring the content to classrooms in the region in an engaging way. Therefore, it is composed of informative units so that teachers can work with students to develop skills such as observation skills, basic knowledge of natural elements and cultural traits, and the functionality of the landscape and its evolution.

Features of the guide

To make the guide multimedia, the texts are accompanied by audiovisual pieces (six in particular), which invite you to explore routes in the area, such as the glacial landscape of the Miera Valley, the river terraces in Pas, the source of the Pisueña River or a walk along the La Garma route, among other options.

To create the multimedia content, the Valles Pasiegos GAL collaborated with the Cantabrian Rural Development Network and members of the Naturea Cantabria team . In addition to editing the texts and outlining their key aspects, they also participated in explaining the routes and landscapes featured in each of the audiovisual pieces.

The guide has been presented physically in high schools, both in paper and digital versions, in one-class sessions for students in their third and fourth years of secondary school, first year of high school, and intermediate vocational training courses. In a final phase, and if the health situation allows, a program of visits with schools is planned to reinforce the knowledge learned in the classroom about the region's landscapes in the field.
