The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, through the Subdirectorate General for Rural Development and the National Rural Network, has organized an exchange of experiences between Autonomous Communities on generational renewal, to inspire the Managing Authorities of the RDPs in the design of future interventions under the National Strategic Plan for the CAP for Spain.
- 20 representative experiences from across the country in generational renewal and the incorporation of young farmers.
- Continuation of the first meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Generational Change, held in January 2021.
This meeting, attended by more than 60 representatives from the Managing Authorities of the regional RDPs, the Directorates General of the General Secretariat of Agriculture and Food of the MAPA (Ministry of Agriculture and Food), and the FEGA (Federal Agricultural Development Fund). This meeting allowed participants to share experiences and success stories in the field of generational renewal that are being implemented throughout the country.
The objective of the meeting was to highlight examples and best practices that contribute to fostering generational renewal in rural areas and that can serve as inspiration for other regions to promote similar measures. The meeting provided a platform for sharing useful information for decision-making, with a view to designing future interventions under the CAP Strategic Plan for Spain. As the Director General of Rural Development, Innovation, and Agri-Food Training, Isabel Bombal, pointed out, generational renewal is one of the fundamental elements identified in this needs analysis process, which is necessary to guarantee profitable, sustainable, and viable agricultural activity in the medium and long term, as well as to promote the active settlement of our rural areas.
The event follows the first meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Generational Change, held in January 2021, where many Managing Authorities expressed interest in learning about the experience of other territories in implementing certain initiatives.
The day's program was structured into a first block of presentations of actions within the field of RDPs that facilitate the incorporation of young people into the agricultural sector and rural areas, and a second block in which other good practices in generational renewal were presented.
Thus, several elements were addressed, such as the role of the mentor, support for young farmers in settling in, agricultural training and integration, the use of financial instruments in settlement aid, the transfer and resizing of farms, good practices in simplifying aid granting procedures, the mobilization of land banks, and other aspects related to information and knowledge about young farmers.
