One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed for the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda is Environmental Education, specifically SDG 15: “Life on Land.”

  • The "Association for the Sustainable Development of the Alcudia Valley" distributes a school diary and a field notebook among the institutes and schools in the area.
  • The objective is to raise awareness about the protection of biodiversity
  • The agenda and notebook take as reference the Alcudia Valley and Sierra Madrona Natural Park, belonging to the network of protected areas of the Natura 2000 Network

With the aim of bringing environmental awareness and dissemination to the general population - and to the youngest in particular - the Local Action Group "Valle de Alcudia" (Ciudad Real, Castilla La - Mancha) has designed and developed an environmental agenda and a field notebook, called " Nature Days ".

The diary has been distributed among public schools in the Alcudia Valley and Sierra Madrona regions, specifically to children ages 6 to 12. In total, approximately 1,000 diaries have been distributed.

Protected areas

“Days of Nature” uses biodiversity as a common thread, focusing on the network of protected areas , specifically in the Alcudia Valley and Sierra Madrona Natural Park , which has a double classification:

The project, beyond being a standard environmental tool, also embraces a gender perspective, family learning, and integrated approach, allowing it to be used on all field trips with classmates, as well as as an educational strategy for family activities.

Participatory Local Development Strategy

The "Valle de Alcudia" Local Action Group has implemented this initiative as part of its Participatory Local Development Strategy (PLDS) to ensure that priority topics such as climate change, environmental commitment to the local environment, and sustainable consumption and production are taught in schools at an early age. In short, it's about understanding and interacting with the local natural environment.

This was the first in a series of environmental education and sustainability initiatives that led the "Valle de Alcudia" GAL to join the Castilla-La Mancha Environmental Education Strategy through a statement of support.
