- The rural revitalization project 'Now We' seeks to foster family reconciliation in rural areas.
- The team is made up of 11 women aged between 34 and 47 years.
" Now it's our turn ." This is what the women members of the "Now We" project are saying. This initiative was created with the aim of raising awareness about shared responsibility, giving voice to, and empowering women living in rural areas of La Rioja.
"Ahora nosotras," hosted in the municipality of Anguiano, launched in October 2021 and is in a pilot phase. Its objectives are:
- Educate in the concept of social co-responsibility for the balanced distribution of family, economic and personal life of women and men in both rural and urban areas
- Reducing the gender gap in rural areas, where it is most intense
- Promote a project model that can be replicated in other rural areas
- Giving voice and visibility to women in rural Rioja
Let's not forget that co-responsibility means sharing household chores and caregiving activities between men and women, so that both men and women have the same opportunities for personal and professional development.
Project development
The project, promoted by psychologist Clara Martínez, consists of two phases:
- First phase : This phase includes specialized workshops and talks to identify challenges related to work-life balance and co-responsibility in the home, with the aim of promoting tools and resources that foster equal opportunities and the psychological well-being of participants.
This phase is aimed exclusively at women living in the municipality of Anguiano and its surrounding areas, between the ages of 25 and 45, or other age ranges if they have children up to the age of twelve.
In April, practical workshops will be held to address topics such as healthy habits for equal partners, learning to delegate to promote shared family responsibility, and setting goals, projects, and dreams for women living in rural areas.
- Phase Two : Photographer Ruth de Pablo will collect snapshots of the subjects' daily lives as professionals, mothers, daughters, workers, housewives, and independent women. The best photographs will be presented in an exhibition at the end of the project in June 2022, which will capture what it means to be a woman living in a rural environment.
According to Clara Martínez, the promoter of the idea, "participating in this project will be a great opportunity to dedicate time to oneself, develop self-care habits, and create new opportunities and options for women."
The project has been subsidized by the Government of La Rioja , with the collaboration of the University of La Rioja , the IBERCAJA Foundation , the Federation of Rural Women's Associations FADEMUR and the Official College of Psychology of La Rioja .
