The meeting presented a compilation of the various policies promoted worldwide to address the COVID-19 pandemic in rural areas. To this end, the participating organizations presented their respective studies on the current situation.
The OECD presented its recently published report , "Policy Implications of Coronavirus Crisis for Rural Development" (OECD, June 16). It outlines the implications of COVID-19 for rural development and the policy responses OECD member countries are adopting. The document analyzes the economic effects on rural regions and then identifies the associated opportunities and challenges. It also summarizes how governments are responding to the crisis and addresses how governments can prepare to seize these opportunities .
Following the OECD presentation, various measures and initiatives implemented in South Korea, the European Union, and Scotland were detailed. International organizations such as the FAO , the United Nations , and the International Labor Organization provided information on how the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the poverty and vulnerability of rural populations in many countries.
