  • The seminar "Let digital life catch us unprepared: teleworking in rural areas" achieves high participation rates
  • The state of confinement and quarantine have forced the National Rural Network to reinvent itself and adapt its activities to a digital format.

The current importance of teleworking

The current crisis caused by COVID-19 has prompted the urgent adoption of measures, previously proposed in the European Framework Agreement , aimed at promoting teleworking.

In this context, the National Rural Network , with the aim of addressing the rural digital divide and promoting better adaptation to online communication channels, has organized this first digital seminar to provide digital tools and resources to prevent the depopulation of rural areas.

At the opening ceremony, Carolina Gutiérrez Ansotegui, Deputy Director of Rural Development, highlighted the importance of teleworking in the new rural environment that is coming . She also announced other activities that the RRN is already organizing, such as experience exchanges between operational groups and online activities focused on the environment and rural development.

Program

The seminar was given by Mª Fernanda Jaramillo Polo , director of Social&Tech, who provided guidelines for improving work-from-home capabilities, analyzing the needs of remote work as well as practical advice for carrying out: “ From face-to-face work to working by objectives .”

Mº Fernanda outlined some of the digital skills needed to foster personal productivity: creating personal content, connecting through communication, analyzing and evaluating digital information, data security and protection, and identifying digital needs and resources.

As for digital tools , there are different platforms on the market that can help us achieve success with teleworking, but you need to know what each one offers to make the right decision. That's why Drive, Dropbox, Zoom, Hangout, and others for projects and presentations, such as Canva and Pexel, have been analyzed.

There have also been successful cases of 100% online models from the rural world , such as Fauna and Flora or Mama Goat .

This seminar provided an opportunity to reflect on teleworking as a necessary alternative for the growth of rural areas and on the importance of investing in education on the use of ICTs to boost economic activities in rural areas.
