The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food is launching today a program of training visits for young farmers to model farms in collaboration with the UPA (Spanish Agricultural and Food Cooperatives) and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España (Agri-Food Cooperatives). The program aims to address training needs through a practical approach and follows a didactic approach aimed at young people in the agricultural sector.


  • The program is aimed at young farmers and ranchers under 41 years of age.
  • The experience includes stays on model farms lasting between 5 and 14 days, where the young people will receive 7 hours of training daily.
  • The objective of the program is to offer eminently practical training
  • The online application must be submitted between October 8 and 19, 2020.
The training stays are aimed at young farmers and ranchers, who must meet the following requirements:
  • Be under 41 years of age at the time of application.
  • The date of their first installation must be after January 1, 2015, regardless of whether the young person's incorporation into agricultural activity was carried out through aid from Rural Development Programs.
  • Carry out agricultural activity in an Autonomous Community other than the model farms where the visits selected in your application are carried out.
All training visits will take place between November 2 and December 31, 2020.
Applications must be submitted online between October 8 and 19, 2020 (both days inclusive).

Program Features

1. Objective: To offer young farmers and ranchers access to practical training on real, active farms , where they have the opportunity to acquire and consolidate on-site knowledge of technical and management aspects that they can subsequently apply in the development of their own agricultural activity.

2. Duration: between 5 and 14 days, with 7 hours of training daily

3. Extras: Training stays may include complementary technical visits to other organizations, entities, associations and/or cooperatives.

4. Number of participants: up to 5 young people may participate in each training stay.

5. Mentoring: Each farm will have a training manager (the owner or another person) who will be responsible for providing young people with practical and technical knowledge.

6. Certification: Upon completion of their stay, the person will receive a certificate of participation in the Young Farmers Training Visit Program to Model Farms (2020) issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

7. Young person's expenses:

  • Accommodation and meals: covered by the program.
  • Travel, transportation and transfers : covered by the program.
  • Substitution: The young person may receive 100 euros for each day they are away from their farm as a result of their participation in the training visit, as replacement expenses (including training days and return travel).
