The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food launches the CULTIVA 2021 Program

Starting tomorrow, July 9, 2021, and continuing through August 10, 2021—for a period of 20 business days—the application period opens for grants for national entities representing and linked to the agricultural sector for the organization of training stays on model farms under the CULTIVA 2021 Program.


  • This is the second edition of the Training Internship Program at Model Farms for young farmers.
  • The entities applying to participate in the project will be responsible for identifying model host farms, designing training programs, and preparing, managing, and coordinating the placements of young farmers and ranchers.
  • The CULTIVA 2021 program's training stays may be held until March 31, 2022.

Royal Decree 425/2021 of June 15 contains the regulatory bases and the call for applications for the current fiscal year, to which 1 million euros will be allocated to the organization of stays of between 5 and 14 days that contribute to the practical training of young agricultural professionals and the transfer of knowledge derived from said training.

Requirements for applicant entities

  1. General and national professional agricultural organizations , as well as any non-profit entity, association, or organization representing the agricultural and/or livestock sectors at the national level , are eligible to participate in the CULTIVA 2021 Program. These entities will be responsible for identifying model host farms and designing the internships and training programs, as well as preparing, managing, and coordinating the logistics of the internships.
  2. Entities must accompany their application with a training placement plan, including the host model farms and the placements scheduled at each one.
  3. This plan will be supra-regional in nature and will guarantee the presence of farms headed by women .
  4. Host farms must be linked to the entity submitting them and be exemplary in terms of innovation, production methods, business model, or social, environmental, or climatic characteristics .

The set of plans submitted by the applicant entities will make up the 2021 Training Internship Catalog and will be the basis for selecting internships by young farmers and ranchers.

Young participants

This year, young professionals who entered the agricultural sector for the first time as farm managers on or after January 1, 2016, and who were under 41 years of age at the time of entering the sector, will be eligible to participate in the CULTIVA Program. When assigning training placements, priority will be given to the most recently established young people, female farmers and ranchers, and those who did not participate in the program last year.

The training placements will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and will run until March 31, 2022 .

Information day

To clarify all aspects and details of the CULTIVA 2021 Program, the National Rural Network organized a presentation event attended by more than 100 representatives from the government, local action groups, professional agricultural organizations, trade unions, and individuals.

The alignment of the MAPA with the priorities of the European Union was highlighted: generational change , incorporation of women and men into the agri-food sector , modernization of farms, and transfer of knowledge and innovation .
