The workshop "Entrepreneurship and Empowerment of Women in Rural Areas" was held on November 3 at the Extremadura School of Public Administration in Mérida, Badajoz, at the request of the Confederation of Rural Women (CERES), a national rural women's organization, as part of the 2016 Action Plan of the National Rural Network of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

This meeting, aimed at women and rural women's organizations from the autonomous communities of Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, and Andalusia, achieved the objective of analyzing women's entrepreneurship and empowerment in rural areas, as well as promoting the implementation of training forums and women's participation in the decision-making bodies of organizations dedicated to rural development. Nearly 40 women from the region's main associations (FADEMUR EXTREMADURA, FEMUBA/AFAMMER, Unión de Uniones, FEMUR, and AMR PURA CEPA) participated.
The workshop was opened by the Government Delegate in Extremadura, Cristina Herrera, who highlighted the fighting spirit of rural women and how much they can teach society. The day's presentations were opened by Isabel Sánchez Tejado, president of the Norte de Gredos Business Association, who discussed the generation of knowledge about entrepreneurship by women in rural areas.
The manager of the Andanatura Foundation, Julio Campos Vidiella, presented an analysis of business models run by rural women. In his presentation, Campos addressed the aspects that must be implemented for a business idea or project, also considering innovative aspects that can be implemented, as well as the possibilities for diversifying an existing business. Lola Alcón Mestre, a specialist from the same organization, complemented Campos' presentation.
Two representatives from the Badajoz Chamber of Commerce, Almudena Leyton Toro and Concha Lázaro Cruz, spoke about the information and support structures that rural women can benefit from in the economic and business spheres.
During the meal, participants were able to engage in conversations with other attendees and speakers to create future networking opportunities.
In the afternoon session, a workshop was held to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the situation of women in rural areas. The workshop was coordinated by Paloma Jimena Medina, head of the Gender Department at the consulting firm Arroba CB Rural Professional Services.
