Knowledge-sharing day on the current situation of extensive transhumant livestock farming and its importance for the sustainable management of the national territory, the conservation of the livestock trail network, and the connectivity of the protected ecosystems of the Natura 2000 Network. The goal is to involve the rural population, ensuring the essential generational renewal for the transmission of traditional knowledge, preventing depopulation, erosion, and the spread of forest fires due to the overgrowth of grasslands caused by the lack of grazing land for small ruminants.
The participation of national and European experts on these topics, along with administrative officials from the various ministries involved, as well as from the Autonomous Communities and civil society, will foster a debate on the necessary future alternatives for our rural environment. Specific short-term proposals will be agreed upon to improve the current worrying situation, offering quality jobs for young people that contribute to achieving the main Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Compact for the Environment and Climate Action, within the framework of Biodiversity Conservation, the fight against erosion, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
