Mujeres

We pay tribute to rural women in recognition of the important role they play in agriculture, livestock farming, rural entrepreneurship, and in establishing rural populations.

October 15, 2008, marked the first International Day of Rural Women, recognizing "the decisive role and contribution of rural women in promoting agricultural and rural development, improving food security, and eradicating rural poverty." This initiative was embraced from the outset by all countries with great enthusiasm and responsibility, as the important work carried out by women in rural areas is common throughout the world.

In Spain, numerous activities have been carried out over the years to commemorate the anniversary, both by various public administrations and by various women's organizations and entities. One of the initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food, and Environment has been the creation of the Excellence Awards for Innovation for Rural Women . This year, the 8th edition has been announced, the results of which will be announced shortly. The winners are scheduled to receive their awards at an event in Madrid on October 19th.

The National Rural Network encourages all public administrations, organizations, and entities linked to women and the rural environment to organize commemorative activities on October 15th. We also offer you the email redrural@mapama.es so you can send us your programs so we can share them on our website and social media.
