The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, through the General Directorate of Rural Development and Forestry Policy, has completed the restoration work for the damage caused by the massive forest fire that occurred on July 28, 2015, in the municipality of El Burgo de Osma (Soria).

The forest and environmental restoration efforts, with a budget of €125,000, aimed to reduce erosion risks following the fire, promote natural regeneration, improve access, and restore livestock and fire protection infrastructure.

To this end, strip tillage work has been carried out to reduce the risk of erosion after the fire, as well as to improve soil infiltration capacity and thus reduce surface runoff.

Access improvements have also been carried out to facilitate forest management and other restoration work has been carried out in the burned area, seeking to develop a mixed forested area that will provide diverse opportunities and ecological diversity in the future.

These initiatives are 53% co-financed by the EAFRD, within the framework of the corresponding National Rural Development Program.

These efforts, along with similar efforts to restore major forest fires carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, are part of a series of collaborative and supportive actions for the Autonomous Communities in the areas of hydrological and forest restoration and the fight against erosion and desertification.
