The National Film and Rural Women Series, which reached its fourth edition in 2021, was launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) to give greater visibility and exposure to the annual "Excellence Awards for Innovation for Rural Women," which held its twelfth edition this year.
- This year's edition is notable for the increase in the number of venues in rural areas, rising from 7 to 53 venues between 2020 and 2021.
- This has translated into a 40% increase in viewers compared to 2020.
- The exhibition has collected 14 cinematographic proposals through 71 screenings
- The exhibition has been broadcast in 9 countries, as for the first time the films have also been broadcast via streaming in Latin American countries.
Its purpose is to give relevance and visibility to the work carried out by rural women, as well as to expose the urban population to the ways of life in this environment. In short, it aims to highlight the central role played by rural women, who are often the driving force behind socioeconomic development in their territories, a role often overlooked.
The exhibition takes place annually on International Day of Rural Women , which is celebrated every October 15 .

Headquarters and sponsorships
Thanks to the opportunity this year to attend film screenings in person, given that the COVID-19 pandemic prevented in-person events in 2020, the 4th Rural Women and Film Series has had various screenings in a multitude of film libraries in the provinces that hosted it.
This has enabled a quantitative leap in the number of venues, mainly from rural areas , from 7 in 2020 to 53 in 2021, decisively opening up the action to rural populations and carrying out 71 screenings that have confirmed its exceptional reach.
In total, there were nine film libraries and 44 regional towns , in many of which the directors of the films, or even some of their protagonists, participated in discussions at the beginning or end of the day, allowing them to share experiences with the audience, often rural women from those municipalities themselves.
