The National Rural Network (RRN), in collaboration with the SG of Forest Policy, is organizing the 2nd conference on the structure of forest ownership in Spain. Importance and need for action in the face of abandonment . The conference will take place in Madrid, at the MAPAMA headquarters at Gran Vía de San Francisco, 4-6, on April 19, 2018. The conference, which will take place in the morning and during the afternoon session, will feature the presentation of the book "Forest Restoration in Spain: 75 Years of a Dream."
Goals
The distribution of different types of forest ownership, between public and private, is one of the most determining factors for the implementation of forest policies. It exhibits significant inertia in its trends and is a consequence of our country's socioeconomic and administrative history.
Understanding the distribution of forest ownership is important for designing and implementing a policy tailored to the current situation. Most Spanish forests are privately owned (19 million hectares), and this type of ownership is highly fragmented in the most productive timber areas, making logging operations economically unviable.
This conference will delve into the structure of forest ownership in Spain, its specific features, and the implications it can have on the abandonment and deterioration of our forests. The various measures currently in place to curb this abandonment and deterioration will also be addressed.
The RRN Management Unit will organize the event and coordinate logistics for attendees who require it, covering travel expenses. Given the limited budget allocated for the event, priority will be given to attendees who require travel of more than 200 km and the order in which registration requests are received.
