  • The objective of the day was to present the most significant details of the Strategic Plan for the CAP in Spain (PEPAC) as well as the functioning and new features of the CAP Network.
  • Journalists have had an extensive question and answer session, as well as a space to share the type of information and tools they need in their territories from the PAC Network.

The CAP Network is the meeting point for all individuals and entities related to the rural environment and agricultural activity, with the aim of disseminating and ensuring compliance with the objectives of Spain's CAP Strategic Plan . It also aims to raise public awareness about the importance of the rural environment and the agricultural sector for our present and future.

Consequently, communication , dissemination, and outreach activities are vitally important to bring the Network closer to all stakeholders, as well as to the general public. Hence, the PAC Network organized the Press Day to present the PAC Network. with a triple objective:

1. Publicize the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and the functions and objectives of the new CAP Network

2. Respond to questions and suggestions from attending journalists .

3. Serve as the first meeting between the PAC Network and information professionals from the primary and secondary sectors to establish ties and synergies .

Above all, it was about making us known to the country's rural and agricultural journalists so they could also spread the word about our activities of interest throughout their territories.

News conference

More than 30 rural and agricultural journalists from across the country attended the event. The event was led by APAE (the Association of Agri-Food Journalists of Spain), represented by its president, Elisa Plumed, and by the Rural Journalists Network , which participated through its founder, Manuel Campo Vidal.

Professionals learned the details of the new CAP, as well as the functioning and purpose of the CAP Network. Ignacio Atance, Deputy Director General of Agricultural Policy Planning at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), spoke. He explained that the Spanish PEPAC was one of the first to be approved, placing Spain at the forefront of Europe in CAP Strategic Plans thanks to the in-depth analysis conducted of the sector, which was then translated into new agricultural and rural development measures. Atance emphasized that the Spanish PEPAC is synonymous with balance, thanks to the fact that direct payments are subject to much-needed changes that guarantee the survival of the primary sector in the face of new socioeconomic and climatic scenarios. Hence the inclusion of measures such as eco-regimes , extensive grazing, and crop rotation: "all of which have been very well received in direct payment subsidies by farmers in our country," according to Atance.

Following this, the day turned into a large press conference with a broad Q&A session, during which the journalists present addressed concerns and also shared their views on the information and tools needed in their respective regions to properly disseminate both the objectives of the new CAP and the activities of the CAP Network.

Among the suggestions, the idea has been floated of creating a large database of industry journalists so that all the information generated reaches them appropriately, and not just through the usual channels, such as the PAC Network website and social media , as well as its monthly newsletter .
